| DESCRIPTION: Engineering assessment of
water reuse systems serving five First Nations homes in the communities
of Ndilo and Dettah. The systems treat all wastewater from the
homes, and incorporate primary solids removal, biological treatment
(recirculating filter), solids filtration (roughing, fine &
activated carbon), ozonation, and UV disinfection, followed by
storage. In operation for over five years, the systems are currently
providing reuse water for toilet flushing (with water savings
of $8,000 per year), with the intent to provide reuse water for
bathing, irrigation, and laundry uses. The extended use had not
occurred because of difficulty in maintaining adequate disinfection
levels. As a result of the assessment, the treatment process
was simplified and the effluent quality was improved to meet
regulatory requirements for unrestricted reuse. |
