PROJECT: NATURAL SYSTEM TO TREAT AND RECYCLE DOMESTIC WASTEWATER
LOCATION: Bainbridge Island, Washington State, U.S.A.
OWNER: Puget Sound Environmental learning Center
DESCRIPTION: An 11m3/d natural treatment system enclosed in a solar greenhouse containing fixed growth media, constructed wetland and hydroponic reactors with reuse of the renovated water for irrigation and toilet/urinal flushing, thereby reducing potable water needs for the facility by about 75%. System also designed as a teaching tool for sustainable water conservation strategies.
