| PROJECT: COMMUNITY WASTEWATER TREATMENT
AND DISPOSAL |
| LOCATION: Whitehorse, Yukon |
| OWNER: City of Whitehorse |
| DESCRIPTION: A three year study that investigated
all feasible treatment and disposal options including mechanical
plants, lagoons, snowmaking, river outfalls, infiltration basins,
and natural wetlands to serve the City of Whitehorse to the year
2012, with a projected population of 33,800 and flows of 19,300
m3/d. The study included extensive input from public and government
agencies. The selected treatment option was anaerobic lagoons
followed by facultative lagoons. Lagoon effluent flowed to a
storage impoundment that provided nine month storage and ammonia
removal by volatilization, with annual discharge over a 60 day
period into the Yukon River. |
