 PROJECT: ADVANCED BIOLOGICAL NUTRIENT REMOVAL TREATMENT PLANT
LOCATION: Penticton, B.C

DESCRIPTION: The highly polished treated effluent from this treatment plant discharges into the sensitive Okanagan Lake system. Works included to upgrade and expand this municipal plant from 9,000 to 18,000 m3/d were grit removal, refurbished primary clarifier, flow equalization, two train 11-cell extended aeration activated sludge basins to biologically remove phosphorus and nitrogen, secondary clarifiers, effluent sand filters, chemical addition, pH adjustment, primary sludge fermenters for VFA production, sludge thickening/dewatering and treated effluent storage ponds. The upgraded plant is considered one of the most advanced of its kind in North America.
