| DESCRIPTION: Year round performance monitoring of Marine Sanitation Devices (MSD), aboard cruise ships sailing Alaskan waters. Ships certified for discharge into Alaskan waters under U.S. Coast Guard regulation 33 CFR 159.309 are required to monitor MSD performance on a bi-monthly basis. Samples are collected aboard ship, while the ship is docked in port and analyzed by NovaTec for BOD, TSS and fecal coliform. Field measurements are made for pH and chlorine residual. |
