PROJECT: SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT REAL-TIME MONITORING
 LOCATION: Comox, B.C.
OWNER: Regional District of Comox-Strathcona
DESCRIPTION: The Comox Sewage Treatment Plant is a secondary wastewater treatment facility handling up to 12, 000 m3/d of municipal sewage. The dissolved oxygen and suspended solids concentrations in the plant's aerated channels were monitored using automated field equipment. Information was recorded every 10 minutes to a computer disk, storing a month's worth of data between equipment installation and removal. The information was used to determine actual aeration requirements, mixing efficiencies, responses to hydraulic surges, and to estimate future expansion needs.
