| PROJECT:LAB SCALE TREATMENT EVALUATION OF
CONTAMINATED WATER FROM A MINE TAILINGS POND THROUGH ADDITION
OF COAGULANTS AND FLOCCULANTS |
| LOCATION: Colomac Mine, N.W.T. |
| OWNER: Indian and Northern Affairs |
| DESCRIPTION: Tailings water from an abandoned
gold mine was contaminated with Cyanide, Ammonia, Arsenic, Copper,
Lead, Nickel and Zinc. Treatment evaluation involved addition
of coagulants and flocculants to precipitate Cyanide, Ammonia
and metals out of solution. Chemical treatment was followed by
precipitate stability testing. This was performed both in the
prescence of oxygen and without the prescence of oxygen at pH
6, 8, 10, and 11. he objectieve was to determine if Cyanide,
Ammonia and metals resolubilities over time. The findings of
the study were to be used to treat the mine tailing water on
site. |
