Lower: Three tanks being filled with sewage at start up.
Upper: Pumping sludge into tanks outside Screening Plant
Lower: Tank No.1 in operation
PROJECT: DAWSON AERATED LAGOON PILOT PLANT
LOCATION: City of Dawson, Yukon
OWNER: City of Dawson
DESCRIPTION: The 73 L/d thermally insulated
pilot plant consists of two aerated cells each with a 15 day
retention and a third cell with a 60 day retention. The objectives
of the pilot program is to assess the ability of an aerated lagoon
to treat a low temperature, low strength wastewater in order
to produce an effluent that is non acutely toxic to fish by removing
ammonia and surfactants from the wastewater. Heating and cooling
loops were installed in each tank to control tank temperature.
ROLE: Design of pilot plant, procurement
of equipment, development of testing program & operating
procedures, overview of installation and operation and reporting.
